Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941)

Pair of armchairs
circa 1925

This pair of armchairs embodies perfectly the Jean-Michel Frank’s style. These deep and comfortable armchairs, completly covered with fabric, standing on two front pyramidal feet and two back saber-shaped feet. The cuved back is formed by a generous bulge that extends outwards and continues on the rounded armrests. This model is known since 1925. Jean-Michel Frank designs, at this time, the Charles et Marie-Laure de Noailles hôtel Bischoffsheim in Paris. Masterpieces of Jean-Michel Frank, we can easily unders- tand the attraction for this model which is particularly well-documented. Indeed, after the Noailles’ Parisian appartement, some similar models tooke also place in the Armand Massard’s appartement, avenue Montaigne, circa 1925-26 or at Robert Chevalier house, Epinal, 1927. A certificate from the Jean-Michel Frank Committee comes with these armchairs.
