Giuseppe Scapinelli (Attributed to), Pair of armchairs

Giuseppe Scapinelli (1911 - 1982) (attr. à/to)

Pair of armchairs
circa 1950

Pair of armchairs in blackened caviuna. The seat and the curved back are upholstered with a knit fabric. The four legs are slender. The curved armrests, with a wood cuff. This elegant pair of armchairs is part of an ensemble of pieces created in the 1950’s in an organic and fluid style. This singular and easily recognizable production remind us Carlo Mollino’s biomorphism. Scapinelli’s decorative repertoire is marked by sensuality. He plays with the epxressivity of wood, notably with the caviuna wood, which is his favorite wood species. The strong lines go beyond the utilitarian aspect and lead to a sculptural dimension. The drawing is spontaneous. Giuseppe Scapinelli’s design is a sensitive design.
