Important «Lune» (Moon) vase with cardinal points
circa 1950
White ceramic with a grid of thin black cracks, excellent original condition. A face representing the moon is encircled with scarifications all around ; at each quarter, the initials of the cardinal points are engraved. The decor is highlighted with a lime-green enamel. Some fire bubles, inherent of the making process. Signed with the «Alpha» cypher under the base.
Height 32 cm (12 1⁄2 in) - Width 28 cm (11 in) - Diameter of the neck 16 cm (6 1⁄4 in)
Provenance :
- From an importante private collection, region of Paris, where there was also, a remarkable abstract sculpture in black ena- mel ceramic also by Georges Jouve.
- Stayed in the same house until its acquisition by the gallery Chastel-Maréchal.
