Maxime Old

Maxime Old was born in 1910 in Maisons-Alfort, in a family of cabinetmaker masters for several generations. After making studies at the ‘Ecole Boulle’ he enters Jacques Emile Ruhlmann’s workshop, then at the top of his glory, and stays up to his death. Since 1934 he creates furniture for private customers but also makes the decoration of liners, banks, embassies or of the presidential palace of president Bourghiba in Tunisia. In 1961 he arranges the ‘France’ liner. Some of his furniture are unique pieces but others are designed to be edited. His preferred materials are Macassar ebony, oak, walnut, but also bronze and leather. During the 1960’s he also uses brushed steel and lacquer. Maxime Old dies in 1991.
